The 2022 Monteupulciano is our 2nd vintage from our own patch here in the far south west of the Barossa! The yineyard sits at just 100 meters above sea level, quite low for the Mount Lofty Ranges making it a tad warmer and perfect to ripen up this hard to ripen grape.
Deep red in the glass, the wine shows aromas of cherry, blackberry and a charred new oak backbone. On the palate gives an up-front hit of flavour and firm tannin that quickly coats the mouth with flavour. Juicy and ripe, but then the powerful structural tannin and acid comes through for a long and chewy finish. A little French but mainly American oak was used on the wine, designed to richen and sweeten the natural dark Cherry fruit like flavours - it worked a treat!
Drink by it self, or with rich cheese or flame grilled meats.
The same as all of our wines, the Montepulciano is Vegan friendly so flame grilled Vege strips on the BBQ would also match a treat.
